How water detection actually works.
Water detection measures electrical current between two conductors. Dry and separated, no current flows. But water — and most household liquids — is conductive: when it bridges the conductors, current flows and creates a signal.
PuzL Detect measures its sensor every second. When the signal crosses the detection threshold, the alert fires — as a local visual and audible alarm, and as remote notifications through your home automation system and directly to your phone.

Every PuzL Labs product is designed in compliance with the Matter standard: secure and encrypted at installation, on every communication, and in every interaction with other networks and products in your home.
Each unit ships with an embedded digital certificate that authenticates the device during installation — proving it comes from a legitimate manufacturer, is a certified product model, and carries a registered serial number. Only fully certified products from Matter member companies pass this level of authentication.

What is Matter?
Matter is the smart home industry's unifying connectivity standard, guided by the Connectivity Standards Alliance. It's a shared foundation that lets certified devices from different manufacturers set up easily, work together securely, and stay compatible over time — simplifying life for both device makers and homeowners.
Are PuzL Labs devices secure?
PuzL products are secure by design and encrypted at installation, on every communication, and in all interactions with other devices. An embedded digital certificate authenticates each unit during setup, and every product is certified against CSA Matter security and authentication protocols.
What do I need for Matter & Thread compatibility?
PuzL Detect requires a Thread Border Router within 10m (30ft) — the gateway between your home Wi-Fi network and your Thread network. Many smart speakers and hubs already support Thread communications. Check the Thread Border Router compatibility list to see if you already own what you need.
What's the difference between proactive and reactive detection?
Reactive detection tells you about the puddle. Proactive monitoring — continuous leak, freeze, temperature, and humidity sensing with one-second response — tells you about the first drops, the pipe about to freeze, or the humidity creeping toward mold conditions, while there's still time to act.
